Our practice remains absolutely committed to provide you with the safest and most reliable vasectomy care nationally.

Factors to consider when choosing a Vasectomy consultant

There are four essential factors to consider when choosing a vasectomy provider. We meet all requirements at Vasectomy.ie.

  1. Has the provider undergone formal, accredited vasectomy training? The majority of practitioners, including Vasectomy.ie, will be accredited by the Royal College of Physicians, London.

  2. Is the practitioner on the "Specialist Division of the Register'' as maintained by the Irish Medical Council? Vasectomy.ie and all registered medical practitioners who have completed specialist training will be listed in the Specialist Division of the Register, which you can check at www.medicalcouncil.ie. Likewise, your vasectomy provider should be a fellow of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health at the Royal College of Physicians, London, which indicates their completion of a formal vasectomy training programme.

  3. Is the practitioner enrolled in a formal audit system? Maintained by the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care, this international audit system benchmarks a practitioner's outcomes against those of other providers. At Vasectomy.ie, we are regularly audited.

  4. Does the practitioner carry out their post procedure sampling with an accredited laboratory service? At Vasectomy.ie, we use First Options Fertility, the only specialist semen analysis laboratory in Ireland. Using First Options we ensure all post procedure testing is performed to the very highest international standards.

Qualifications and Accreditations

Many vasectomy providers in Ireland do not have any qualifications in this field. Vasectomy.ie strongly believe that all doctors providing vasectomy procedures should have a dedicated vocational training and formal medical qualifications in this field. It is a standard that is mandated in many international locations and we firmly believe it should be mandatory for vasectomy providers in Ireland too.

Dr O’Keefe was the first provider of vasectomy services in Ireland and has personally trained over 100 current vasectomy providers. Dr Bates spent two years in the National Health Service training specifically and exclusively in vasectomy provision. As a result he has been awarded the Certificate of Special Skills Training for the provision of Vasectomy Services, conferred by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (CCST FSRH) as well as a diplomas in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. In recognition of his academic and research achievements Dr Bates has been awarded the highly coveted Scholar of Trinity College (SchTCD). Dr Bates and Dr Kwong were both formally trained and accredited by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, London.

Only at Vasectomy.ie can you be assured that your vasectomy will be carried out by vocationaly trained and accredited specialist vasectomy doctors.

Audit and Quality Assurance

We at Vasectomy.ie believe that all medical services should consistently be compared to their peers. This ensures that we are continually comparing our outcomes versus those of our UK colleagues to ensure our methods and outcomes are consistently in the to quartile of our peer providers. To this end we submit all our data (fully anonymised) to to the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care. We chose to benchmark against a UK reference group because Irish numbers are too small to make meaningful comparators. You can thus be fully assured that our outcomes are scrutinised and benchmarked annually against the best providers internationally.

Post Vasectomy Testing

Post vasectomy testing to ensure your ejaculate is free from live sperm and that you are now considered “sterile” is as important as the procedure itself. Many vasectomy providers require you to produce a sample at home and deliver this to your local HSE laboratory.

We believe that you deserve better. To this end we arrange for your sample to be tested by the clinical embryology team at First Options Fertility. This advanced nationally accredited laboratory only provides semen analysis and run by an experienced team of clinical embryologists. They provide the greatest volume of private semen analysis nationwide. You can be fully assured that your sample is comprehensively tested and results returned to you in a timely fashion. All costs associated with post procedure testing are fully included in your initial fee.
